TV Reception Issue? | How to Fix |
Experiencing picture loss, poor reception, pixelation or not able to receive a channel?
Common issues include: only one channel doesn't work, some channels work, only mornings or only nights are ok, some shows are ok, neighbours experience the same issue and.. it only just started.
Digital television is now streamed in Australia (2001) at a uniform strength signal. Reception issues are invariably at the viewers (receivers) end caused by a aerial, tuner, television set, wiring, local fixture or weather.
A retune will resolve most issues.
How To Retune
Use your TV remote to start a retune. For most systems press the 'menu' button on your remote and follow the prompts to retuning.
Menus vary depending on your equipment. For detailed retuning instructions, see your manufacturer's handbook or Australian Government: How To Retune guide..

People living in apartments may be using a shared antenna system (MATV system). Try retune the digital TV equipment or contact the property manager or body corporate.
Pixelation
Pixelation (pixelated squares) on the screen represent packets of data which have not been received or were lost in transmission due to a poor connection, in other words, a poor signal.
Pixelation can be caused by weather conditions (thunderstorms), interference from nearby appliances or signal interference from other devices.
Reset the TV box - the quickest way is to "reset" your TV / Entertainment Box. Power off the TV and box (Fetch, Foxtel, Hubbl). Detach the power cable. Wait 30 seconds and then reconnect. Power on (reboot).
Reseat the coaxial connections - Try unscrewing / pulling out the cables and reattaching every cable.
Bypass the splitter - not everyone has one but if you use a cable splitter, try reseating it (above), or replacing it.

If a retune does not fix the problem, it is recommended having your antenna checked by a qualified technician. They will identify and fix the problem which can include old/misaligned aerials, aged wiring and plugs or local issues.

* Network Issues
This page is to help readers who may believe it is caused by a network (ABC, 7, 9, 10, SBS). We (this website) are not connected with or aligned with any network.
Since television went digital, it is rare that reception issues are caused by a network. Try a retune and if that fails then contact a qualified technician (above).
