Nestled on the edge of Darwin Harbour, our outdoor setting boasts panoramic sunset views over the harbour, framed by a lush tropical garden and remnant rainforest.
As an independent cinema operated by the Darwin Film Society, we take pride in showcasing an exclusive selection of films that are usually not available to local audiences.
Each night of the dry season, we showcase a diverse selection of films, ranging from beloved family favourites to captivating Australian and foreign flicks.
Immerse yourself in the laid-back, relaxed atmosphere as you sink into one of our 250 deckchairs or 150 straight-backed seats. Comfy cushions are provided, but we recommend bringing your own for ultimate comfort on busy nights. When the skies are cloud-free, the stars twinkle overhead, creating a mesmerizing backdrop for the big screen.
Our box office and kiosk open at 5.45 pm, so you'll have plenty of time to soak up the ambiance before the movie starts. In the unlikely event of rain, rest assured that we will still proceed with the screening, unless it's a heavy downpour. Food and Drink
Satisfy your taste buds with our licensed kiosk serving snacks, wine, beer, soft drinks, and Deckchair merchandise.
Our local caterers serve hot and delectable meals every night of the week, starting from when our gates open at 5:45 pm and continuing until the first screening begins. To ensure you don't miss out on the mouth-watering dishes, we recommend arriving early on busy nights as our caterers can sell out.
Location
Deckchair Cinema is located on Jervois Rd, accessible by road from the end of Kitchener Drive in the Darwin Waterfront precinct.
Parking at the Deckchair is free after 5pm. There are two disabled parking spaces and bicycle racks are available on-site.
The Cinema is accessible via the stairs of the Damoe Ra Walkway from the Esplanade. This path is well lit before and after each screening. Extra parking is available at the top of the stairs.
Please note, on busy nights the capacity of the Deckchair car park may be exceeded. We encourage you to use the Esplanade car park or at the new anchorage court car park. There is a free shuttle that runs from Darwin Waterfront to Deckchair Cinema.
Darwin Waterfront rangers patrol the Deckchair car park at night. Fines may be issued if cars are not parked in marked spaces, such as on the verge.
